You must all have heard of Botox before. Maybe you have even tried it? It is a popular treatment at Dr Martina vd Mescht’s practice and her patients have been enjoying the predictable and natural results it offers.
It works wonders on wrinkles but that’s not all! It is a wonderful addition to any skin rejuvenation treatment regime!
What exactly is Botox? Put simply, it is a muscle-relaxing agent derived from Botulinum toxin that reduces wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily relaxing the muscle.
Botox works equally well for men and women. However, men may require a slightly higher dose due to stronger muscle contractions.
Cosmetically, Botox is most commonly used for the following areas:
- Vertical lines between the brows (frown lines)
- Crow’s feet
- Squint lines
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Lines on the bridge of the nose
- Downturned corners of the mouth
- Chin puckering
- Neck Platysma bands
If you want to visit Dr vd Mescht for Botox alone, then expect each Botox treatment to last approximately 4 months and it takes about 15 minutes to complete the procedure.
If it is your first time getting Botox, it might take a little longer because Dr vd Mescht will need to examine and explain as much as possible for you to feel safe and comfortable.
With Botox Dr vd Mescht can:
- Reduce wrinkles
- Reshape eyebrows
- Reshape lips
- Treat excessive sweating
- Reshape the nose

You’ve learnt about Botox at Dr Van Der Mescht’s practice but are there any other options in terms of skin rejuvenation? Of course! Let’s talk about Chemical peels.
A chemical peel is the application of a chemical solution to sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented, and finely wrinkled facial areas. The procedure reduces and corrects imperfections by peeling away the skin’s top layers. Chemical peels are also great to treat the décolletage and hands!
There are basically three different types of chemical peel available:
- The light, superficial, peels (AHA)
- Medium peels (TCA)
- Deep peels (Phenols).
Each Chemical Peel option has pro’s and con’s and offer significantly different results.
If your skin shows signs of:
- Irregular pigmentation,
- Acne or
- Fine wrinkling,
Then a superb option would be a light chemical peel (AHA)
Chemical Peels work by exfoliating the skin. They loosen and remove the layer of dead cells (keratinocytes) on the skin’s surface. By removing and replacing dead skin cells we force unblimsihed new skin to the surface. Giving you a wrinkle free and glowing appearance.
For more aggressive skin rejuvenation or treatment of acne scars, deeper wrinkles and uneven skin colour, a medium chemical peel (TCA Peel) is a better option. The treatment is harsher than AHA chemical peels but the results are more significant. This means you achieve you skin rejuvenation results faster but with increased downtime.
More than one TCA chemical peel treatment may be recommended to achieve your desired results. Treatments are usually spaced 2 to 3 months apart due to downtime. This is because TCA treats deeper lying skin wrinkles are scars and it may take a few treatments to eradicate the issue.
To increase their skin rejuvenation effectiveness, TCA and AHA peels are often combined with other skin-rejuvenating treatments, such as microdermabrasion, needling and Botox or dermal fillers.
Also, you must know that results are cumulative, so the more chemical peels you have, the better the results. Periodic peels thereafter help to maintain your results. However, repeated peels are not recommended for deep peel.
Have you ever heard of mesotherapy? It is a great skin rejuvenation technique of injecting a small amount of a customized mixture of conventional pharmaceutical or homeopathic medications, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes into the mesoderm – or middle layer of skin.
Very small doses of the vitamins are administered using tiny needles in specific areas depending on the condition being treated. Mesotherapy is used to treat a broad range of illnesses and pain conditions. This minimally invasive approach has shown successful results in many areas: sports injuries, hair regrowth, alopecia, and cosmetic treatments
So on what areas of the body can cosmetic Mesotherapy be used?
Mesotherapy may be used for cellulite, body fat reduction, body sculpturing and weight loss, facial rejuvenation and eye fat pads
Dr Martina vd Mescht not only uses mesotherapy for skin rejuvenation but she also uses Mesotherapy to treat aging, sagging, and wrinkling of the skin involving the face and neck. It is also used to retard the progression of wrinkling and to rejuvenate ashen complexions.
Mesotherapy helps to shrink fat from under the neck, remove free radical damage, and tighten loose skin. The effects of Mesotherapy rejuvenate the face, eyelids, and neck without the unnatural appearance and painful recovery of surgical alternatives.
