Avoid the summer skin problems the easy way

Attractive summer woman enjoying her time outside in park with blue sky in background.

Summer is coming back with a bang! We can’t wait to break out of our winter scarves and coats, to let the Sun kiss our skin again. A potential problem though is that human skin is very sensitive, and the blazing summer Sun can make the matters worse. Skin plays a very important role in our body, personality and beauty, so it makes sense that we do what we can to avoid potential skin issues before they occur.

If we take care of some essentials, then we can achieve a glowing and shiny skin perfectly suited to the summer Sun. A radiant skin increases our outward beauty and who doesn’t want to look beautiful. Follow these tips to preserve yourself from the damaging effects of the Sun whilst getting a lustrous skin that you will love.

Tip 1: Chemical Peeling

The chemical peel is also known as chemexfoliation and it can be considered as one of the best ways to achieve glowing skin. The method is simply to use a chemical to hasten skin exfoliation while stimulating new skin generation and restoration. This newly restored skin will appear even in skin tone and with minimal wrinkles.

Doctors Note: It is essential to take care of your new skin as it will be temporarily sensitive and Sun sensitive.

Chemical peels are normally conducted on the face, neck or hands. This method will reduce both fine lines and deeper wrinkles caused by Sun damage or aging.
We also use chemical peels to treat dark pigmentation spots, acne and acne scars when appropriate. This 1st tip will create that glowing skin you are dreaming of, but it would better to complete your chemical treatments before the height of summer simply due to skin sensitivity.

Tip 2: Hyaluronic acid skin rejuvenation

You might have come across hyaluronic acid in the beauty world as it plays a vital role rejuvenating and hydrating the skin.

In this treatment, minute amounts of hyaluronic acid are injected into the skin with multiple injections, to raise the skin’s hyaluronic acid content. Creating a bank of HA within the skin is not dissimilar to taking a spare water bottle on a hike. It acts as a hydro-reserve within the skin allowing the skin to function optimally. This means elastic, fresh and vibrant skin that is associated with youth.

A HA Skin Rejuvenation treatments takes roughly 60 minutes to complete, downtime is minimal and the results will last the entire summer. This is the perfect all natural treatment and every single client gains immediate benefit from undergoing the treatment.

Doctors Note: ensure that you use daily Sunblock to minimize skin dehydration from the Sun, and don’t forget to reapply.

Tip 3: Exfoliating cleanser

To give your skin a youthful appearance, it is very important to cleanse daily and pamper it regularly. Exfoliating your skin will improve your complexion by naturally removing the dead skin cells. This is the best way to get the glowing skin this summer as it cleanses deeply and clear pores whilst giving rejuvenating results to your skin. Exfoliation is the method of eliminating the top layer of dead, epidermal skin cells that dull the external surface of the skin to expose a fresh and bright skin.

Doctors Note: There are physical and chemical exfoliation cleanser products on the market. Make an appointment to discus what would world best for your skin, and on your holidays.

Tip 4: Daily Moisturiser with Sunblock

Moisturising your face is one way to look and feel younger as daily moisturiser application will keep your skin soft, supple and hydrated. It is often a good idea to apply moisturiser twice a day.
The ideal time to moisturise is after the shower as your skin will be moist which will help in the absorption of the lotion. Before applying the moisturiser, cleanse your face thoroughly then apply gently using a circular motion. This application method will help the moisturiser reach the pores and repair underlying skin issues. By using the right moisturiser and using it daily, you will see great benefits over time.
Doctors Note: To achieve better results, use a moisturiser that is specifically made for the face, containing Sunblock protection up to SPF 15 or higher.

Today there are numerous products on the market that offer active ingredients including retinol and Hyaluronic Acid. It is my best advice to use the most researched product available to your budget. Make an appointment to discuss your homecare regime.

Getting older can be a bit upsetting – especially when it comes to your looks. With more years on your life, you will no doubt eventually deal with drier skin, age spots, and wrinkles – but that doesn’t mean you can’t address all three!

In your thirties, wrinkles and age spots may begin to appear. Your skin may seem less radiant and may show signs of discoloration.

In your forties, the collagen and elastin support network begins to break down. Lines and wrinkles become more prominent as your skin becomes dryer. The blood flow begins to slow down, leaving your skin with less of a blush.

Once in your fifties, the new cell production decreases. Your skin retains less water, which increases the wrinkle formation. At the same time the underlying fat cells in your face shrink and your excess skin begins to sag.

But not to worry! There is so much I can do to help you look amazing. Remember to visit my Facebook page and my website to stay up to date with the non-surgical treatments I offer!

An Ageless Skin Secret:

One skincare secret all fabulous-looking women – no matter their age — know is that old, dull, dry skin cells are the enemy. To look youthful and glamorous, you must be diligent about removing dead cells through chemical peels, or exfoliating scrubs.

Chemical peels in particular help slough off old damaged skin cells and speed new cell growth, which means your topical products (moisturizer, cleanser, sunscreen) penetrate the fresh new skin much better.

I have written about chemical peels here

Daily Maintenance is Key

While regular chemical peels can do wonders to minimize age spots, reduce fine lines, and improve your skin’s surface, you still don’t want to neglect a good at-home daily skincare routine of your own.

Sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher is your skin’s best friend, as is a good deep-cleanser.

You should also invest in a good quality moisturizer, especially one that features glycerin, which helps hold moisture in the skin for a more supple, younger appearance.

It’s Never Too Late

Gorgeous skin, even after 60? Absolutely.

Even though you may be — like some women –accepting and even proud of the wrinkles you’ve earned, continuing a vigilant skincare regimen during this decade is crucial to optimizing your appearance and enhancing your beautiful natural features and you will probably have more confidence in your look than ever before, with good reason!

For those who were not as careful with their skincare routine in the past, it’s perfectly fine to start now. This decade is in fact an ideal time to start paying more attention to anything on your skin that begins to change colour or becomes irregular, since it’s a time when people really begin to notice the ramifications of long term exposure to the elements for your skin.

SLOWING DOWN AGING – WITH AND WITHOUT THE HELP OF AESTHETIC PROCEDURES

This month, my newsletter is all about how a healthy diet is directly linked to early skin ageing and premature wrinkles. But for those of you who are already on the right track diet wise and would like some extra help to keep your skin looking young and healthy, I will also explain you how I can further slowdown or revert these signs of ageing thanks to the treatments and procedures I offer at my practice.

If you are looking to treat deep wrinkles or fine lines or lift certain areas of your face, I can help you with safe and predictable skin rejuvenation treatments using gold standard injectable products. The results are consistently superb and long lasting.

But remember: making sure you feed your body the right nutrients and vitamins is the most important and natural way to keep you looking young and glowing for as long as possible!

If you would like to inquire about these treatments or any of the procedures I offer at my practice. Please do call my rooms on 011 954 0070/3.

You can of course, stay in touch with my practice via Facebook and visit my website  for more info on all the aesthetic procedures offer.

YOUR BEST SKINCARE ALLIES ARE NOT IN THE BATHROOM!

If, as the old adage goes, we are what we eat, then we need look no further than the kitchen for the secret of eternal youth.

What you eat can make or break your skin so make the right choices at the supermarket and you will notice a massive difference in the overall quality of your skin in a matter of a few days!

Equating fresh food with a fresh complexion may sound simplistic, but there is undeniable evidence that a good diet promotes good health from the inside out. Firstly you really do need to drink two litres of water daily in order to flush out toxins and promote skin turnover.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to stop the ageing process which means that no matter how thoughtfully you shop and how well you eat, your skin will most likely show signs of aging at some point. And of course, genetics and the kind of lifestyle you lead will also greatly influence the way your skin ages.

There is so much you can do every day to delay aging! For instance, by eating foods containing anti-oxidants, you can not only restore elasticity to the skin, but reduce your likelihood of developing serious illnesses.

If your diet is right, your skin will be better, your hair more glossy and you will look and feel more youthful.

As a guideline, you should go for bright fruits and vegetables, the reds and yellows and oranges, which are strong in colour, and the dark, green ones, such as Savoy cabbage and avocado.

Fish is a great source of essential fatty acids (EFAs) like omega-3 and omega-6, which reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation triggers the cells to clog the pore, causing acne. It also leads to wrinkles down the line.

The fish that contain the most EFAs are salmon, mackerel, and tuna (particularly the albacore and bluefin varieties). EFAs are also found in almonds, hazelnuts, and flaxseed.

Fat is your friend!
Many women have dry, flaky skin because they don’t eat enough fat. If you’re getting fewer than 20 grams of fat a day (roughly 2 tablespoons of oil), your skin may not be able to lubricate itself and your body may not absorb enough vitamin A, which your skin needs to prevent premature aging.

So remember: fats aren’t as bad as you think and olive oil is your best ally in the fight against unsightly wrinkles!

In our twenties, collagen (a fibre that keeps skin firm) is produced more slowly and dead skin cells are shed less quickly. Good genes can keep you looking young but research suggests that lycopene and beta carotene also may help by scavenging for free radicals that contribute to skin aging.

Eat sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupe and leafy greens for beta carotene and include lycopene-packed tomatoes and watermelon in your diet. Come in for a skin rejuvenation treatment to start off on the right track.

THE MAIN AGING CULPRITS…

While a little bit of colour in your cheeks is flattering, full-on redness isn’t exactly the look you’re after. And certain foods and beverages, such as spices, cured meats, MSG, and alcohol (particularly red wine), cause blood vessels to dilate, bringing on facial redness.

Make sure to consume these foods in moderation in order to leave your skin tone even and radiant! I can correct all these issues in a few painless minutes, but prevention is better than cure right?

If you are serious about keeping your skin looking young and smooth for as long as possible, you must be prepared to make sacrifices. Refined carbohydrates such as white bread and pasta are a complete no-no as they release a chemical called collagenase, which destroys the collagen in the skin and creates wrinkles.

I cannot stress this enough: summer isn’t over yet so apply sunscreen daily. The sun is responsible for the majority of early signs of aging and most importantly can cause cancer. Better safe than sorry!

Sunscreen helps keep your skin healthy and beautiful, protecting it from the outside in—but key nutrients in certain foods can shield your skin from damage from the inside out: vitamin C, lycopene, omega-3s, caffeine and isoflavones in soy.

HOW ABOUT SOME EXTRA HELP?

Now that I have given a brief guide on the foods you should and shouldn’t eat to keep your skin looking young and healthy, I will tell you what I can do at my practice to delay or pause the signs of aging you may have noticed on your face. From Botox to Chemical peels, there are a lot of options to consider if you are bothered by wrinkles. Together during the consultation process we will discuss which treatment is most adapted to your skin’s needs.

→MESOTHERAPY

Have you ever heard of mesotherapy? It is a great skin rejuvenation technique of injecting a small amount of a customized mixture of conventional pharmaceutical or homeopathic medications, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes into the mesoderm – or middle layer of skin.

Not only do I use mesotherapy for skin rejuvenation but I also use Mesotherapy to treat aging, sagging, and wrinkling of the skin involving the face and neck. It is also used to delay the progression of wrinkling and to rejuvenate ashen complexions.

→BOTOX

You must all have heard of Botox before. Maybe you have even tried it? It is a popular treatment at my practice and my patients have been enjoying the predictable and natural results it offers.

It works wonders on wrinkles but that’s not all! It is a wonderful addition to any skin rejuvenation treatment regime! Hit like if you know someone who has had Botox before?

With Botox I can:

  • Reduce wrinkles
  • Reshape eyebrows
  • Reshape lips
  • Treat excessive sweating
  • Reshape the nose

→CHEMICAL PEELS

A chemical peel is the application of a chemical solution to sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented, and finely wrinkled facial areas. The procedure reduces and corrects imperfections by peeling away the skin’s top layers.

Something you may not know is that Chemical peels are also great to treat the décolletage and hands!

To increase their skin rejuvenation effectiveness, TCA and AHA peels are often combined with other skin-rejuvenating treatments, such as microdermabrasion, needling and Botox or dermal fillers.

I hope you find empowerment through the information offered above.

Well Wishes

Do people say you’re looking tired all the time? Dark circles or bags under your eyes? Are you bothered by dark circles under your eyes or becoming self-conscious about your increasingly noticeable crow’s feet? Do you think you may need a brow lift?

Then maybe a dermal filler or Botox treatment is all you need to instantly make you look well and refreshed again!?

closedEyesVDMarch

This month I will be talking about all the procedures I can perform in order to improve the eye area. From dark circles to saggy tear troughs and crow’s feet, there are so many ways for me to make your eyes pop and look more beautiful than ever. Surgery is not always the only option. You must know that I offer rejuvenation treatments at my practice using dermal fillers and Botox.

If you would like to inquire about these treatments or any of the procedures I offer at my practice. Please do call my rooms on 011 954 0070/3.

You can of course visit my website

TIRED OF LOOKING TIRED?

What causes dark circles under the eyes?
Dark circles under eyes are usually caused by hollowing in the “tear trough” zone due to volume loss caused by loss of fat in this area. This is usually due to age but can be present in much younger people who are genetically predisposed.

Here is an article that speaks extensively about the use of dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation and in particular to deal with tear troughs.

Why is a dark circle under the eye so dark?
The dark colour occurs because the loss of tissue allows the deeper dark purple muscle layer to show through.

Often a “bag” will appear, as this loss of structure, plus loss of upper cheek volume in more severe cases, causes a loss of support to the under eye tissues which will then begin to bulge unsupported.

The darkness is further compounded by the shadowing caused by this troughing and bagging.

By adding volume back into the troughs and upper cheeks, these negative contours can be smoothed out, effectively eliminating the dark colour and shadowing, and erasing the perceived tired look.

Do bags under my eyes have anything to do with age?
In many cases, and particularly over the age of 40 years, volume loss in the tear trough can become more widespread in the upper/mid face, extending further down and out along the cheeks.

This more generalised volume loss in the mid face is also very typical of the natural ageing process in all people, and is why in some cases, people can look “sad”, “tired”, “burnt out”, or “unwell”.

What products do you use to treat tear troughs?
The dermal filler I use isJuvederm; it is a forgiving natural gel, which has fantastic longevity in this area. Typically results can last up to 12-18 months, and in many cases the results have lasted well beyond 2 years.

The treatment tends to be a little bit more tedious than when treating other zones, simply due to the potential fragility in this area.

TREATING THE EYE AREA WITH BOTOX

Botox is an injection primarily composed of botulinum toxin, a naturally occurring purified neurotoxin which is used to erase unwanted lines of aging around the eyes, infamously known as crow’s feet.

How does Botox work?
Botox blocks the neuron and neuron transmitter site. This will not stop your facial muscles from moving, but instead stop unnecessary muscle contractions that are caused from everyday activities such as squinting, smiling, frowning and focusing.

Is Botox safe to treat wrinkles?
Repetitive expressions in the skin results in fine lines and wrinkles, which overtime begin to sag and turn into deeper and harder to treat wrinkles.

Botox usually lasts three to five months. Because Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring neurotoxin, it is eventually digested by the body, allowing the neurotransmitters to work in connecting micro muscular movement signals to travel once again.

Take a look at my newsletter on skin rejuvenation

So how do I treat crow’s feet with Botox?
When treating crow’s feet, I will inject the neurotoxin around the outside of the eye where the crow’s feet appear. It is also effective to place Botox injections beneath the eye where additional sagging and wrinkling may occur.

Finish the eye rejuvenation with a non-surgical brow lift?

By injecting Botox into the muscles that pull the eyebrows down, the muscles are temporarily weakened, and the eyebrows are lifted. The goal is to retrain the muscles to reshape the brow over time.

Fillers like Juvéderm can help lift the tail of the brow. It all depends on how much correction is needed. These are non-invasive procedures and can be refined over time as the patient ages.

→Did you know?
Botox injections are great for stopping crow’s feet, the vertical frown lines between the brows. Botox can also be used to slightly elevate the brow and eliminate horizontal lines across the forehead to help the upper face look younger and more relaxed.

The treatment takes mere minutes and results last three to four months on average. Many plastic surgeons consider Botox to be an integral part of a surgical brow lift, since its use before surgery can help relax the muscles and facilitate healing.

Strategically placed Botox injections can give your brows a subtle yet temporary lift—with none of the recovery or downtime associated with surgery.

Botox is not only a treatment to fix eyebrow and brow line signs of aging, but can also possibly delay the need for brow lift surgery!

Non-surgical vs. Surgical facelift
In the past, surgeons have solved the ongoing problem of sagging skin and wrinkles with traditional face lifts that are invasive and may result in a pulled look. Today we have learned that the appearance of sagging skin, wrinkles, and folds is the result of loss of structure and volume as well as collagen in the skin.

These signs of aging can be treated successfully with a combination of injectable products such as neuromodulators (BOTOX) and facial fillers.

THE LIQUID EYELID LIFT

My next topic, the liquid eyelift is a similar procedure that can be an alternative to cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for some patients.

The result is an upper lid that is lifted, a brow with a softer contour and a more open look to the eye. In the lower eyelid, the bags are smoothed and the cheek contour improved.

Did you know that non-surgical eyelid correction was an option?!
To ensure a comfortable treatment, topical anaesthetic is applied to the area to be injected, and the material is mixed with anaesthetic solution. All injectables are administered with a very fine needle. The most common side effects include mild bruising and swelling at the injection site.

Ultimately, my goal is to restore balance, volume, and an overall more youthful and natural result to the entire eye area.

These procedures can last 3 years, depending on which products are used and how the body absorbs the filler material. Commonly a skincare regimen is also recommended to help maintain youthful looking skin in both the eye area and face in order to optimize the results.

WELCOME!

As summer is long and intense here in SA, reversing sun damage should be high up on your list of skincare priorities. And while, in the future, regular SPF application, hats and sunglasses are the best way to prevent wrinkles, sun spots, skin cancer and all the other aging effects of the sun, when the damage has already been done, put reversal at the top of your to do list.

This month in my newsletter, I will be talking about the treatments I offer at my practice in order to fix what the sun has done to your skin over the years.

But you can of course visit my website for more info on all the aesthetic procedures on offer.

Excessive exposure to the sun early in life can make a person look older than he/she really is. This premature wrinkling and skin damage from sun exposure is called photoaging.

Photoaging, unlike natural aging, results in:

  • Coarse, dry skin;
  • Freckling and skin discoloration;
  • Leathery skin; and
  • Deep wrinkles.

No one can avoid the natural process of aging, as the skin thins and lines and wrinkles appear. Moles, scars, and birthmarks also tend to change as we age. In addition, sun damage over the course of a lifetime worsens the aging skin.

Although there are many anti-aging creams on the market, advanced signs of aging and sun damage sometimes require more invasive dermatological procedures, including the following:

  • Botulinum toxin type A,
  • Chemical Peels and
  • Dermal Fillers injections.

BOTULINUM TOXIN

An injection of Botulinum toxin (a complex type of protein) into specific muscles will immobilize those muscles, preventing them from forming wrinkles and furrows. The use of Botulinum Toxin will also soften existing wrinkles.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels are often used to minimize sun-damaged skin, irregular pigment, and superficial scars. The top layer of skin is removed with a chemical application to the skin. By removing the top layer, the skin regenerates, often improving its appearance.

Peels are helpful for improving skin tone, texture, and for some cases of hyperpigmentation (brown spots) but for best results, they must be accompanied by daily use of a well-formulated sunscreen rated SPF 15 or greater along with a brilliant anti-aging skin-care routine.

You can read one of my newsletter on chemical peels

A chemical peel is a procedure that can improve wrinkled, scarred, or sun damaged skin. It is also effective on skin with:

  • Mild acne scarring,
  • Freckles,
  • Age spots,
  • Melasma, or
  • Other irregular pigmentation and skin wrinkled by age or the sun.

Thick, rough, red, precancerous growths called solar keratoses can also be removed with the chemical peel. They are caused by excessive sun damage.

→Chemical Peels for Solar Keratosis:
During this procedure, chemical agents that remove the damaged skins outer layer are applied. Thin scabs form over the treated areas within 2-3 days and fall off a few days later revealing smother, younger-looking skin.

→Three types of chemical peel are available:

  • A light peel, which is used to lighten superficial age spots and fine wrinkles;
  • A medium peel, for more advanced sun-damaged skin and age lines; and
  • A deep peel, which is more risky and is used for more severe conditions.

I will determine which technique will be most effective for you.

DERMAL FILLERS
As time passes and our skin changes, our natural volume and youthful skin begins to diminish, therefore, lines and wrinkles form.

Fortunately, with the help of Juvederm Dermal Fillers the signs of aging can be reduced instantly; adding volume to your face that you will be able to see immediately, rejuvenating your appearance.

The typical treatment areas for dermal fillers at my Aesthetic South Africa practice are:

  • The Nasolabial folds (lines from the end of the nose to the end of the lips),
  • Perioral area (wrinkles around the lips),
  • Wrinkles of the cheeks,
  • Marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth to the jawline, accentuating the downturn of the mouth)
  • Lip augmentation which provides definition without looking overdone to lips which have become thin and wrinkled.
  • Acne scars,
  • “Tear-trough deformity” (hollow under-eye circles),
  • Hollow cheeks,
  • Cheek-lift,
  • Brow-lift
  • Re-sculpting the jaw line by lessening the effect of jowls and sagging.

Also, make sure you read my newsletter on mid-face skin rejuvenation on my blog!

Fillers can be combined with just about any other aesthetic treatment that exists. Dermal fillers work superbly well in combination with laser, Botox and Chemical Peels.

HAND REJUVENATION

Frequently, interest in cosmetic improvements mostly addresses the facial skin, while hands, that are in fact the most obvious sign of ageing, are sometimes ignored. This is why I wish to talk about hand rejuvenation procedures at my practice, via the injection of dermal fillers.

Hand skin rejuvenation treatments give a firmer, younger appearance. Over the years, medical technology has created a variety of hand rejuvenation treatments that can help your hands look younger in no time.

To remedy the lack of volume in hand skin, dermal filler treatments, as for facial skin rejuvenation, are used – – – because they are based on the same principle, namely to restore damaged skin structures and plump up the skin from the inside.

I hope you enjoyed reading this newsletter! Remember that I would really like to hear your thoughts about any kind of procedure or treatments so don’t hesitate and post your questions or comments right here on my blog or on my Facebook page and I will do our best to respond as soon as I can!

It is summer, and naturally you will be spending more time in the sunshine, all the more reason to take extra special care of your skin. But we can not just slap on some sunscreen on the scorching days and expect our skin to be health all year round. That is why this month, at the very start of the year – we shall be helping you design a Skin Care Plan for the Year. Some of these suggestions you may of heard before but it does not hurt to touch up on the basics in case you have left something out.

It is important to remember that this is YOUR Skin Care Plan, use what you are comfortable with, and what works for you

The Sun is one of the biggest factors in premature skin aging, but we understand that none of us want to live feeling inhibited, so if you are going to go play in the sunshine remember how vitamin C and sunscreen can do for you.

Research your cosmetics carefully, know what ingredients are being used, and if they are all healthy remember over-use can ‘suffocate’ the skin – like you it needs to breathe.

Flush your system of toxins by incorporating a source of anti-oxidants into your diet, be it herbal teas or any other form that suites you

As we age our skin loses some of its moisture (this is why Dermal Fillers were invented) – you can help combat this by using a gentle moisturizer, but if you need a little more help – then maybe this is for you

Fillers

Fillers are used to:

  • Reducing permanent lines and wrinkles: With increasing age, the skin becomes thinner and thus more prone to folding and wrinkling.
  • Enhancing natural beauty: Fillers can also be used to enhance and augment existing lips, cheeks, chin, etc.
  • Replacing fat loss: Dimples caused by loss of fat cells can be replenished using dermal fillers to restore volume and thus a fuller face.

Dermal Fillers are great, but perhaps you would prefer to plan minor touch-ups with Botox throughout the year as part of your Year Skin Care Plan

Botox

Botox is a protein derived from botulism toxin that is injected underneath skin in order to minimize or smooth out lines and wrinkles on the face. When low doses of Botox are used, it actually paralyzes or relaxes facial muscles, giving the recipient a clean, smooth facial appearance. Botox is also used to treat many other including writing cramps and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Wash your face more than once a day, exfoliation removes dirt before it has a chance to clog up your pores – remember this after a healthy workout. But if you really want to wipe away the ‘wear’ and revitalize we recommend Chemical:

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. To book your appointment simply click on the following link

If your skin is tarnished with varicose veins then we have a treatment plan for you, but remember to book early as the process requires 14weeks to be completely effective

Sclerotherapy – Veins

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat blood vessels or blood vessel malformations (vascular malformations) and also those of the lymphatic system. A medicine is injected into the vessels, which makes them shrink. It is used for children and young adults with vascular or lymphatic malformations. In adults, sclerotherapy is often used to treat varicose veins. (14 weeks)

Not keen to go under the knife? Not a problem, there is another solution…

Non-surgical Facelifts

For those looking for an alternative to invasive plastic surgery, a non-surgical facelift might be a great solution. There are different techniques for a non-surgical facelift, most of which are better suited for younger people who are just beginning to show signs of aging. However, some new methods are now targeting people in their 40s and 50s, especially those experiencing sagging skin and deeper wrinkles.

What Your Food Can Do For You:

Eating properly gives your body the building-blocks that it needs to keep your skin healthy, here are some foods that can help you:

  • Red & Green Vegetables [ vitamin A and B-carotene ]
  • Spinach [ vitamin E, vitamin A, folic acid ]
  • Sweet-potatoes [ vitamins A and C ]
  •  Citrus Fruits [ vitamin C ]
  • Tomatoes (are actually classified as a fruit) [ antioxidants, vitamins A and C ]
  • Certain types of Nuts [ vitamin E ]
  • Seafood [ omega 3’s, zinc and selenium ]

If you wish to now tone your skin then perhaps Mesotherapy is for you

Mesotherapy

If you worked to lose some weight but did not quite meet your goal  – there is nothing wrong with accepting some help – have you considered Mesotherapy?

It is a medical specialty that involves injecting microscopic quantities of natural extracts, homeopathic agents, pharmaceuticals and vitamins into the skin. It can be used to:

  • Eliminate cellulite,
  • Promote weight loss,
  • Treat aging skin and redundant (sagging) skin, and
  • Rejuvenate the hands and neck.

An essential Skin Care Tips:

  • Sleep allows your body time to rest & replenish
  • Don’t forget to care for your lips!
  • The skin around the eyes is very sensitive, be sure to use a specialize eye cream to treat this area
  • It is never too late to start caring for your skin, the more tlc you offer the healthier it will become

Wow, is it that time already? Christmas, Holidays, New Years! What did you do last year? What are your plans this year?

It is important to book your treatments a few days before your holidays or Christmas parties – you want to give your skin time to settle down after a treatment. We offer a number of procedures, visit our website or give us a call to book a consultation such that we can make the perfect choice.

Tips for Skin Care during the Holidays:

  • Avoid drinking too much as alcohol will dehydrate your skin causing wrinkles, and also cause vessels in the skin to dilate leading to a flushed and red appearance.
  • Wear sunblock / sunscreen everyday
  • Have fun but don’t over do it. Poor diet, smoking and alcohol contributes to skin ageing more than you know.

Treatments for You:

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a body treatment technique used to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off. The regenerated skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Have you got your New Years outfit sorted?  – We offer all these procedures to help you tie it all together.

A quick note on closing:

We will only be closed for the public holidays

  • 25th December
  • 26th December
  • 1st January

New Years’ Resolution:

How about setting aside a monthly budget for your anti-ageing treatments? That is a great 2014 resolution that allows for minor treatments consistently to help you reverse the visible signs of ageing naturally with minimal downtime.

Thank You!

We thank you so much for all your support, comments, post, likes & feedback through this year, we wish you the most amazing Christmas & New Years. Please keep in touch & we hope to see you the New Year.

By the way – What has been your favourite treatment for the 2013? In 2014 there are so many new treatment options that we can’t wait to share with you.

Chemical Peels

smile3

This month I have decided to talk about chemical peels at my practice and I hope that you will enjoy reading about this fantastic treatment that gives my patients’ skin the most beautiful makeover. This is a great treatment option to get your skin ready for the upcoming Christmas party.

If you have questions about Chemical Peels or any other procedure or treatment I offer, feel free to leave a comment on my facebook page and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

So what is a Chemical Peel?

Put simply, a chemical peel is the application of a chemical solution to sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented, and finely wrinkled facial areas. The procedure reduces and corrects imperfections by peeling away the skin’s top layers.

What have you heard about Chemical Peels?

Just for You

blogPic

During a chemical peel, I will select the best chemical or chemical mix for your individual needs. I will apply a solution – using a sponge, cotton pad, cotton swab or brush – to the areas to be treated (or the entire face, avoiding the eyes, brows and lips).

Do you have any question about the treatment so far?

Different Types of Chemical Peels

There are three different types of chemical peel available on the market, but not all are suitable for every skin:

  • The light, superficial, peels (AHA)
  • Medium peels (TCA)
  • Deep peels (Phenols).

Did you know about these three different kinds of peels? During your consultation I will assess you skin’s quality and your goals and will tell you which one is best adapted to your skin’s needs.

Light Chemical Peels

Generally, the most superficial peels are those using alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), such as glycolic, lactic or fruit acid. Various concentrations of an AHA can be applied weekly for a series of treatments to obtain your desired result.

Light superficial chemical peels are the most common peels and remove the top layer of skin to reveal healthy skin underneath, but they do so without much downtime. You will need a few treatments to achieve the similar result as a deeper chemical peel.

Would you prefer a light treatment that requires more visits, or a deeper chemical peel with more downtime but less visits?

Great for Preventative Ageing

blogPic2

Light superficial chemical peels are for early ageing or minor skin problems. Because they are quick and easy, with only minor redness you can return to work immediately after that is why they are known as a “lunch-time procedure”.

Light chemical peels are also superb additional treatments to enhance either #Botox or #DermalFillerstreatments.

What does a chemical peel feel like?

Firstly, your skin will be cleansed and then the will be peel applied for around ten to fifteen minutes. You may experience a mild tingling, stinging feeling, but no pain. I will then wash the peel off or neutralize the peel depending on the peel used.

Have you ever had a chemical peel? What did you think of the procedure?

Quick Recover / Minimal Down-Time

After the superficial chemical peel, your skin will often be pink but there should be no after-effects. It may also show faint discoloration or blotches but these should fade soon after.

Medium Chemical Peels

Medium chemical peels, trichloroacetic acids (or TCAs) are the most common performed at my Aesthetics South Africa practice. TCA’s are stronger than glycolic acid. These penetrate further into the skin to reduce:

  • Acne scars,
  • Smaller wrinkles and
  • They will help to even out skin tone.

What is your biggest skin concern?

TCA Medium Chemical Peels

TCA chemical peels are especially, but not exclusively, effective in treating darker-skinned patients, where uneven pigmentation may occur.

Skin Care Plan

TCA chemical peels may require pre-treatment with AHA or Retin-A creams to assist in the deeper penetration and a faster result but I guide you through the process.

This will all depend on elements including:

  • Budget
  • Time
  • Desired result
  • Current skin quality
  • Current skin condition

TCA chemical peels can be used to achieve some effects of a deep peel, depending on the concentration, manner of application and possibly a series of treatments.

The Process of a Medium TCA Chemical Peel

During a medium TCA chemical peel, your skin will be cleansed and the peel applied. The area turns a whitish-grey colour and a saline compress will be applied to neutralize the acid in the peel. Your face may swell while the peel is applied and you may experience a burning, stinging feeling for around an hour after the treatment.

What is a TCA chemical peel recovery like?

Recovery after a medium depth chemical peel takes around a week, your skin may itch and then start to peel. It may be a dark brown colour to begin with and when it has peeled, become sred.  This redness is your young unblemished skin and your natural colour shall return over a period of 2 weeks. #ChemicalPeels

Would you consider a medium Chemical Peel? Have you had one before? What did you think?

What Works Best

For optimum results, I suggests you repeat a medium depth chemical peel monthly until you reach the desired effect. The results will not be seen immediately but the appearance of your skin will visibly improve once the skin has healed.

Would you opt for chemical peels or facelift surgery?

Deep Chemical Peel

A deep chemical skin peel, or phenol peel, is the strongest of chemical peels, and is reserved for deep wrinkles from sun exposure or is used to treat skin wrinkling around the lips and chin area. The deep chemical peels will require significant downtime as they peel deep into the dermis.

Deep Chemical Peel Recovery

After a deep chemical peel, you can expect to feel unwell and experience moderate to severe pain for the following days. Your face will be itchy and swollen. Deep chemical peels are serious procedures and should be looked upon in the same light as surgery.

Now you can see why phenol peels are often performed in theatre.

Deep Chemical Peel Down-Time

It will be around two weeks before you probably want to be seen in public after a deep peel. But the results are dramatic and the effects can last up to ten years. Sometimes we will combine lighter peels and Botox and Fillers to achieve a similar result, so don’t worry if you are looking for young fresh skin, but are afraid of the phenol downtime.

I hope you all enjoyed these Chemical Peel facts.  Please like my page if you did and Remember to visit my website for more information on other surgical & non-surgical options.
