Acne scarring is a notoriously hard condition to treat. Some people resort to intensive treatments that are sometimes too harsh for the skin or inefficient for the particular kind of scarring they are experiencing. When it is appropriate and my patient’s skin shows the right characteristics, I use dermal fillers to improve acne scars.
There are different types of acne scars that may form. Acne scars are either atrophic (when skin tissue is lost) or hypertrophic (when excess tissue develops). Scars forming from acne may be referred to as boxcar-, keloid- or ice pick- scars .
The atrophic acne scars that I can treat with dermal fillers are:
- ice pick scars
- boxcar scars
Of course, I will assess your scars and determine whether dermal fillers injections are the best option for you.
If you are experiencing these atrophic scars, you know that over the counter products are not very effective. However, Juvederm Vycross, the dermal filler I use at my practice, helps to improve the aesthetics of the face in an internal manner. Indeed, Juvederm Vycross treats acne scarring through both volumization and rejuvenation of the skin and my patients enjoy this quick option that gives instantaneous results.
Do you feel like you have tried everything to clear your acne scarring without success? Phone my rooms on 011 954 0070/3 to book an appointment and I will assess your skin and determine what is best for you.
As you may know from my former campaigns on ageing, dermal fillers target areas of the face that have lost volume and beautifully plump-out the overlying skin.
During the acne scar treatment:
- I inject Juvederm Vycross in and around the scarred site because acne scars are usually more visible due the hollow outline of the scar.
- Once the dermal filler is injected into the skin, it enters the sub-dermal layer of the skin and pushes out the upper layer.
- The now levelled, filled out tissue – therefore lessens the presence of the acne scar and leaves your skin more even looking, for up to 12 to 18 months!
Acne scarring also often occurs when deeper tissue is incapable of repairing the area affected by acne. By using dermal fillers like Juvederm Vycross, I am able to restart the rejuvenation process within the skin. Once the skin is revitalized, it is much more efficient at healing itself.
This may not mean that all acne scarring will be gone but via the nourishment and hydration that it provides, dermal fillers help heal the appearance of the scars.
What you can expect after your Juvederm Vycross treatment: While you can usually return to your everyday activities immediately, redness and swelling and bruising may be visible but are part of the process and are very temporary. That being said, you should not exercise until the next day in order to avoid excessive swelling and bruising.
When dealing with acne scarring, it is important to keep in mind that this condition often tends to worsen with aging. The main reasons being the loss of volume as well as the decline in healing capacities of the skin as it ages. So if your skin is prone to acne scarring my advice is that, as you age, you keep tending to your facial volume as well as overall skin quality by undergoing regular dermal fillers injections.
Did you know that it is possible for you to combine Juvederm Vycross injections with just about any other aesthetic treatment that exists? Indeed, dermal fillers work superbly well in combination with laser, Botox and Chemical Peels.
